Student Leadership, Clubs, and Sports
Student Led GroupsAlthough there’s no shortage of after-school options, there’s always room for more. Thus, Student-led Groups. S ay a student has a special interest and would like to spend their after-school time pursuing it, but there are no current classes on that topic. That student may write a proposal, find a teacher-sponsor, submit it to the Principal, and if they get the seal of approval, a new after-school option is born. Past Student-led after-school classes have included Magic, Rubik's Cube, Dance, and Trading-card Collecting, to name a few. |
Affinity Groups for Students |
---|
Affinity groups offer students with a shared identity safe spaces to discuss related issues and fellowship. Emergent conversations can lead to actions that foster a more equitable experience, including special presentations like the one for 2024 Black History Month and collaborating for the 2024 Culture Day and Celebration. At C&C, student affinity groups are student-initiated and include the Students of Color Affinity Group, LGBTQIA+ Student Affinity Group, Jewish Student Affinity Group, Children of Immigrant Families Affinity Group, Affinity Group for Neuro-Diverse Learners, and Banana Splits. |
Community Roots |
A service learning program for third through eighth graders, Community Roots fosters social responsibility and community engagement through interactive activities, discussions, and hands-on projects for C&C’s internal and external community. Learn more here. |
Debate Team |
Small but mighty, C&C’s debate team rivals the area's big schools, consistently earning top honors for team, individual, and program categories in the ESU New York Debate League. Like our gym, wood shop, music room, and art studio, the debate room fosters camaraderie, play, and hard work, allowing students and teachers to express their expertise and values. Debaters, who join the class and team starting in 5th grade, harness academic skills like research, organization, public speaking, and critical thinking, deploying them under the pressure of competition. Working in three-person teams and as a whole squad, they support each other through preparation, strategy, positive attitudes, and fun! |
Sports Teams |
Available to 5th graders and older, C&C’s sports teams vary by season. While focused on teamwork, skill development, and fun, C&C successfully competes against other independent schools across the city. There’s also a non-competitive running club each spring. Team sport participation at C&C is included in tuition. Students must commit to weekly practice sessions. Seasonal SportsFall Sports: soccer and volleyball CLick here for the sports calendar.
